What is Web Hosting?

“Web Hosting is the service providing space on the Internet for websites”

When you make a website and want other people to see it, you will need to publish (or upload) it with a web hosting service.

Web hosting services work by storing your website files in high-powered computers (web servers) connected to a very fast network. When someone types in your web address (such as www.bouncingsprout.com), the Internet connects to the web server holding your website files and then transfers your website information back to their computer. From there they can surf and view the pages of your website.

We offer three hosting packages which should fit the needs of most customers. We are also able to offer VPS hosting should you have bespoke requirements. We promise not to upsell our hosting – if you don’t need a higher tier package, we will tell you.

Your Email Options

The last few years have seen a shift from unlimited POP3 packages to business-class exchange email services provided by Google, Microsoft and others. The benefits include:

  • Separation of services – in the highly unlikely event that your web hosting provider goes offline, your email doesn’t. This means you can continue to communicate throughout, with no loss to your business.
  • Linked calendar and contacts – your email links seamlessly to your calendar and your contact list, so invites for meetings and events are synced and sent to the right people.
  • Bundled productivity suites – businesses now want their email to be inextricably linked to their other office programs such as Word or Docs.
  • Advanced email technology – unlike POP3, exchange email stores all the data on the server – this means the email is always available, on any device, wherever you are in the world.
  • Enhanced support – email providers such as Google and Microsoft are able to provide a high level of support due to the size of their business and knowledge of the technology they have created.

These services are the best fit for most business owners where functionality and reliability are essential. We are members of the Microsoft Partner Network and also an authorised Google reseller. This means that if you have bought a hosting package from us, we can help you to set up your email accounts before handing over to your provider’s support team for any ongoing issues. Please contact us for further details and to receive discounts on your email package.

BouncingSprout Email

We understand that for new or medium sized businesses, exchange email can be costly. We believe that the benefits of exchange email are clear, but in some cases the cost may be prohibitive, especially in cases where a part of your businesses IT strategy is to provide every member of staff with an email address from the very start.

To address this, we can supply POP3/IMAP email on our own mail servers. This email can be viewed online using webmail (and therefore viewable anywhere in the world). In some cases, the email can also be administered using clients such as Outlook or Apple Mail, although we do not provide support for these.

Our email comes at a flat rate of £30 per month for each block of 25 email addresses. If, for example, you have 20 members of staff, then you pay £30 per month, rather than £66 with Google Apps or £74 with Office 365 Business Essentials.

We’d be happy to advise on the right strategy for your business – please get in touch with us.

Domain Names

Domains are the web addresses used to communicate across the internet. Once registered, they become the address for your website, your email and for a range of other services. We believe that you should be responsible for registering your domain name. If a web design company does so on your behalf, they effectively have the key to your entire internet presence. It is, after all, your personal address. If you are hosting with us, and we hope you do, we may ask for your login details to set the hosting up, or we may ask you to login for us and change a small setting called the ‘nameservers’. If you would like to register a domain name, we recommend Namecheap, who have a very simple to use website and offer great value for money. Please click the banner below.
